i got mine on Friday. has anyone eles noticed that Davey Jones is made of cheep plastic!
i thought cheep plastic wasn't going to be in mainstream sets?

If a part is enclosed in its own plastic bag, it comes from China. I don't remember if Davy Jones was or not.

All of Davey Jones was in a single plastic bag, the kind that all CCP comes in

I just got my second copy of the Black Pearl last Saturday. I love this set! It comes with a great selection of parts and looks really nice. I have enlarged the original so it can carry more guns and sails. There were enough left over pieces to make another small ship. While I love the Black Pearl ship the mini-figs that come with it are very disappointing. This is the Black Pearl, "the last real pirate threat in the Caribbean," and you only get three pirates? I was furious when I saw that half of the mini-figs that come in the set don't even belong there. Davy Jones, Bootstrap Bill, and shark headed guy. Really? What about the other cool PotC characters? Cotton, Marty, and the two jokers? All of this was topped off by Jack not even having his hat! Maybe I'm the only one that feels this way, but my opinion is, great ship, bad figs.

I am in full agreement about the fig choices. But I must point out that the reason Jack doesn't have his hat, is because this set is from the Second movie, in which he doesn't have his hat for most of it.

I get that, but I still wish Jack had his hat.

I'm not sure what Lego had in mind here, but perhaps when the Pearl was first conceived it was back in the days when the second Pirates movie came out, then as sometimes happens, the set was set on hold. Hence, when they returned to scope out it's potential popularity, they overlooked the fact that the figures were from days gone by...just a thought eh :skull

I want to think that the Pearl was made at a price point that parents would buy and not fully object to when little kiddy says "MOMMY! I want the Black Pearl!!!" Hey..I have it. I like it. Sure it is not an epic amazing ship..but hey..look at all the ships we've gotten, is it truly much worse than the others? I dunno if I'd ever say that. Its the Pearl for cripes sake...it is a delicious set to have. The figs, well..its a licensed set...enough said.

I believe that is the most obvious reason for it all. Thinking it through, it makes no other sense why it was done like it was.

Anyways, I am going to reiterate my thoughts. I really like it. It looks like the ship in the movies, and it has many nice pieces. The fig choice is weak, but liveable and fixable. I think I actually like it more then the QAR.

I agree with Elephant Captain. When I first saw this set, my first question was "where's barbossa and crew?" I have no idea why LEGO would put Jones' crew in this set. Perhaps they were left over after canceling a propossed Jolly Roger set? Just speculation.

Other then that, appears to be a sweet ship. needs a few upgrades (ie. more cannons), but a sweet ship.

Methinks you mean a proposed "Flying Dutchman" set. LEGO did make one recently, albeit for Spongebob.

That said, the term "Flying Dutchman" refers to that ship's Captain, not the ship... Disney just 'interpreted' it differently, for their own purposes.
