Port Brick Standard

Discussion and planning of large-scale Pirate Themed displays

Port Brick Standard

Postby tedbeard on Mon Jun 27, 2011 1:38 pm

[Edit: July 13, 2011 - OK, I got all enthused and created a website: PortBrick.Com. Please have a look.]

[Edit: July 12, 2011 - changed name to Port Brick Standard as there are too many "Port Royals" out there and because it more generic and LEGO-ish.]

OK, I have put up some more photos of some protoypes I whipped together on the weekend and created a set on Flickr. Apologies for crappy pics and the quickie build but I do what I can with what I got. :eyebrows:

The idea is to have a way to bring together a display as discussed here and in particular for BrickCon 2011.

If we are going to try this for BrickCon in October it would be best to get comments and suggestions quickly so people can get building (and I can start Bricklinking a bucket-load of DUPLO) if we decide to give it a try.

This looks pretty good, but do you have any ideas on how roads would go from one level to the next?

The half riser is where a series of three road sections will lead from one level to the next. I am thinking shallow stepped design that rises the length of the baseplate (32 studs - 4 studs for the adjacent street at the front.

Hey guys...I will be back tomorrow and I'll have a better chance to look at all of it and examine it then.

^ Awesome. Trevor and I have been discussing quite a bit on the Flickr pages. Love to hear what you think.

Especially I would like to hear (from all) about changing the front "street" to six-wide to allow more room in front of buildings as suggested by Trevor.

I don't get the whole micro scale bit. But I guess we work it out as we do.

Just trying to show how the blocks would fit together without having to build the full-sized elements.

Here are the pics I took of what I came up with whilst messing around with Ted's proposed standard.

IMG_1903 You'll notice the winding ramp/street here:

which I think is kind of novel but isn't very practical so.....

....I recently organized something very similar with my lug and we only went up two bricks at each terrace and it had a much more organic feel than four bricks. Much easier to step up. Care to try it Ted?
Trevor

If this ship has a 'girl's side' and a 'boy's side' we must be listing badly!!

Wicked cool! Thanks for doing this. I have posted quite a bit on Flickr and will try to digest some more if I get a chance. (Kinda a busy holiday weekend with the kids.)

I had a chance to build a prototype "road" that will join the different levels together:
