Language of Forbidden Cove

Postby Hippotam on Sun Aug 24, 2008 6:46 pm

A quick impression. From a perspective of a person who's mother tongue is not English, I must say that all those "thee, yer and arrr" are great to get into the pirates mood, but can be really hard to understand, especially during the registration process. I had to make a few educated guesses to get through the forms.

My 2 cents, but I decided to go for it, because it might not be obvious to Admins (all native speakers, I guess).

PS. This was useful. And this one I will be using a lot ;-)

You know, even as a native speaker I have a hard time understanding sometimes!

God bless.

Hmmm, I think that posting this was a good idea. Now I will be able to speak pirate properly :D

You know, you raise a good point, Hippotam, although I am not sure if we can avoid it altogether - this theme suffers from chronic stereotypes. One does wonder how these stereotypes are re-interpreted into other languages... :ugeek:
